Granny Ride 2010
Event News For The 2010 Ride
This year’s ride was scheduled for September 18th. We began our day at the Moose Lodge located at 212 West Franklin Street in Greencastle, Indiana. It was a beautiful day for a 6 ½ hour ride. We went to the Crawfordsville Eagles first, and then we rode for an hour going through Plainfield to get to Pat’s Bar in Mooresville. After a 30 minute stay we mounted our bikes and rode to Skid Row in Spencer. The next leg of our journey took us through the country side, going by the house where Judy “Granny” Rubeck resided when she was alive. We found our way back to 42 and stopped in at the Pub. The Pub is a special place to the family of Granny for that is where she worked and socialized. Upon leaving the Pub we went down 243, a very scenic route, to US 40 into Krambo’s Kustom Kolor. Krambo’s is a really cool shop that houses biker gear and of course where bikes are painted. After leaving Krambo’s we made our way back into town down Manhattan Road and ended back at the Moose. We all had a little special surprise waiting for us upon our arrival, her name is Ella Hoffman. She is the 2 year old child who will receive the first Jim Mannis Grant on behalf of the Granny Ride. October 2nd is the day set for our award dinner. We will be serving your choice of chili, homemade chicken noodle, or loaded baked potato soup for $3.00, all you can eat. Dinner will start promptly at 5pm in the Moose Lodge, followed by a short speech from the President of the Granny Ride Inc. and the handing out of Granny Grants and the presentation of the Jim Mannis Grant. Come one - come all for great food and a fun time.
The Way We Raise Money Money is raised through private donations, T-shirt revenue, as well as scheduled events.
What The Granny Ride Is About
If your an adult and have had the misfortune of getting ill - then you know how difficult it is to get financial assistance from most government funded programs. The Granny ride was started in 2001 after the untimely death of Judy "Granny" Rubeck to Lung Cancer. While dealing with the fact that our loved one was terminally ill, we discovered first handed the hardship of an adult getting financial assistance from any where or anyone! Judy lost her life before she was approved for disability. Her husband made to much money to qualify for state assistance, and any health insurance she had - was "jacked up" in price so that she could not afford to keep it. Her husband nearly went bankrupt and still is struggling to recover from all the medical bills. We are a non-profit group who raises money to help adults that have cancer that has not received state or federal assistance. We can not eliminate all the bills - but we do help! Our commitment is to help find a cure, and to help adults affected with cancer and their families. Each year we have surpassed our expectations in helping adults with cancer, and donating money to The Wellness Community
